The Gift of Gratitude

An attitude of gratitude can enhance one’s capacity to experience happiness and joy, even through times of difficulty. When I reflect on the words of Simon and Garfunkel in ‘Bridge Over Troubled Waters’, it seems that gratitude would be part of the construction of the bridge that can help us navigate over times of stress, anxiety, loss and grief; helping us regain our footing in moving forward.
So how does one do this? Cultivate a habit of recording 10 things a day for which you can be thankful. It can be as simple as a smile directed your way, an encouraging pat on the back. Over time this simple exercise can help one become internally more grateful and thus help to reduce anxiety and stress as we navigate the challenges of life.
